Abstract

The Leopyge Angelfish is an extraordinary hybrid derived from the Eibli Angelfish (Centropyge eibli) and Lemonpeel Angelfish (Centropyge flavissima). The Leopyge's pattern is reminiscent of a tapestry of a flower garden, dotted with the orange and reds of nasturtiums, marigolds, orcalendula, with fringes of delicate blue irises around the eye. Its exceptionally vivid pigmentation and intricate markings distinguish it from either ancestral species, combining an intricate arrangement of markings with an almost radiant intensity of color. Every specimen is feeding at our facility before they ship, and comes with our 14-day Extended Guarantee.

Besides image segmentation, resizing, and cropping, no other edits or touchups (such as adjusting contrast, saturation, etc) are performed. Images showing multiple fish together are intended to illustrate the pair and may not accurately represent their relative sizes. Introduction

The Leopyge Angelfish is the product of successive generations of hybrid breeding between Centropyge eibli and Centropyge flavissima. Unlike a conventional first-generation hybrid, the Leopyge has been developed through repeated breeding of hybrid descendants, giving rise to an unusual combination of traits that distinguishes it from both parental species.

Its most remarkable feature is the extraordinary brilliance of its coloration. The body is suffused with the saturated hues of nasturtium blossoms and French marigolds, interspersed with luminous markings reminiscent of pale calendula petals. Delicate orchid and iris coloration surrounds the eyes and traces portions of the face, providing an elegant contrast to the predominantly warm floral palette.

The defining characteristic of the Leopyge is its spotted pattern. Rather than the comparatively uniform coloration of the Lemonpeel Angelfish or the vertical barring characteristic of the Eibli Angelfish, the Leopyge exhibits an intricate constellation of jasmine-colored spots and irregular markings against a richly pigmented background. This distinctive ornamentation lends the fish an appearance unlike that of either ancestral species.

Important Notes

The Leopyge is more than an unusual color morph: it represents the outcome of sustained captive breeding across multiple hybrid generations, demonstrating the remarkable diversity of pigmentation and pattern that can emerge from the combination of two closely related species.

As with other members of Centropyge, the Leopyge is best maintained in a mature marine aquarium with ample rockwork, sheltered retreats, and opportunities for natural grazing. A varied diet incorporating marine algae and high-quality prepared foods is recommended. Although its captive-bred ancestry represents a significant distinction from wild-collected dwarf angelfish, the Leopyge retains the territorial tendencies characteristic of the genus. Care should therefore be taken when introducing it to aquaria containing other dwarf angelfish, particularly in confined environments.
