Abstract

The Storm Anemonefish is a striking designer variety of the Ocellaris Anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris), distinguished by its dramatic, irregular patterning reminiscent of turbulent skies. Sweeping fields of brilliant white interrupt a deep mocha, like a sunset on a partially overcast day. Each fish possesses a distinctive arrangement of markings, ranging from scattered patches to expansive white formations that roll across the body like an approaching weather front.

Introduction

The Storm Anemonefish represents one of the most distinctive expressions of selective breeding in Amphiprion ocellaris. Departing from the familiar arrangement of three white vertical bands, the Storm exhibits an elaborate redistribution of pigmentation, producing irregular patterns that evoke the shifting atmosphere of an approaching tempest.

Its most remarkable characteristic is the interplay between broad, luminous white regions and the surrounding dark pigmentation. These contrasting fields resemble clouds gathering against an overcast sky, with intricate boundaries that sweep and curl across the flanks. In some individuals, the white markings expand into vast, interconnected formations, while in others they remain fragmented, resembling scattered cloud banks drifting across a dark horizon.

The resulting appearance is both dramatic and remarkably variable. No two Storm Anemonefish exhibit precisely the same pattern, making each individual a distinctive expression of this selectively bred lineage.
