Abstract

The Snowstorm clownfish is a elegant variant of the ocellaris clownfish. Their brilliant solid white with organic flowing patches of black on the fins make these fish stand out in any reef aquarium. Peaceful, hardy, and well suited for reef aquariums, Snowstorm Clownfish are an excellent choice for both experienced marine aquarists and those looking to add a distinctive captive-bred pair to their collection. The larger fish measures approximately 3 inches, while the smaller fish measures approximately 2 inches.

This WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) exact specimen is feeding at our facility before they ship, and comes with our 14-day Extended Guarantee.

Introduction

Few designer anemonefish depart as dramatically from the familiar orange-and-white Amphiprion ocellaris as the Snowstorm. Rather than modifying the conventional three-bar pattern, the Snowstorm is dominated by an expansive field of brilliant white extending across nearly the entire body.

That white body is framed by intensely dark fins and eyes, creating a stark contrast that becomes particularly dramatic as the fish matures. Along the boundaries between white and black, subtle cool blue tones can sometimes appear, lending the fish the icy character suggested by its name. The effect is almost monochromatic: a study in white and black whose restrained palette makes it immediately recognizable.

The Snowstorm phenotype combines two celebrated designer anemonefish lineages, the storm and snowflake. Despite their extraordinary appearance, Snowstorms retain the approachable husbandry of captive-bred A. ocellaris. They readily accept prepared foods, do not require a host anemone, and may form stable pairs as they mature. Their bold personalities and tendency to establish a favored territory make them conspicuous aquarium inhabitants even before their unusual coloration is considered.

Methods

All fish sold by Decamicron Labs undergo our multi-stage conditioning procedure before release. Particular attention is given to parasite control, feeding stabilization, behavioral observation, and post-import recovery. Our anemonefish are guaranteed to be actively feeding prepared foods at our facility. Reach out to us for a video.

Important Notes

Snowstorms are the combination of an almost porcelain-white base, interrupted with a light peppering of undulating black spots and sharp black margins on the fins. Its exceptionally clean silhouette is shaded by subtle blue tones along the margins. As a pair, their matching palette and individual variations in pattern make Snowstorms eyecatching in any aquarium

Anemonefish are particularly associated in the aquarium trade with Brooklynella, a potentially serious external protozoan disease that can progress rapidly in newly acquired fish. Decamicron Labs specifically treats our anemonefish for Brooklynella as part of our conditioning protocol before they are offered for sale.
